Headquartered in France, Nexans employs around 25,000 people with industrial footprint in 42 countries and commercial activities worldwide. Nexans Norway AS, a subsidiary of Nexans, is responsible for High Voltage Submarine Cable Projects ( for interconnectors, offshore wind power, etc) with cable manufacturing taking place in Charlston, South Carolina, USA, Futtsu in Japan and at Halden, Norway. Submarine cable installation is completed on a global basis with Cable Installation Vessels Aurora and Skagerrak.

Nexans has been working in the US for nearly a decade and has been actively contributing to regional development through the employment and training of permanent staff, the establishment of permanent facilities, and the use of the local supply chain. In 2014 Nexans opened a high voltage power cable manufacturing plant in Charleston, South Carolina, USA, creating several hundred manufacturing jobs in the coming years. The Nexans Charleston Plant has now been upgraded to produce high voltage subsea cables , which in turn will lead to an increase in the hiring of US local workforce.

A Nexans office has been established in New York (NY) in 2022 in order to facilitate Nexans’ North American renewable operations. The Nexans NY office will assist in the execution of the Revolution project and installation activities in Rhode Island and will ensure that Nexans governance and processes are implemented and followed to ensure the highest standard of project excellence for all project related activities.

Previous Experience

Nexans has a proven track record completing manufacturing and installation of High Voltage Cables to the Global Offshore Wind Industry. Nexans, Eversource and Ørsted have signed a Framework Agreement for North American Offshore Wind Farm development with the opportunity to provide up to 1,000 kilometers of export cable for multiple Ørsted projects till 2027 in United States. The partnership with Ørsted and Eversource will accelerate the energy transition in North America and bring Nexans’ industry-leading subsea cable technology to the U.S. Nexans Norway AS was in 2022 awarded contracts for the Revolution Project by Revolution Wind LLC (a joint venture of Ørsted and Eversource) for the supply, jointing, termination, installation and protection of the Export Cables and Accessories for the Revolution windfarm development in Rhode Island. The Revolution Project Export Cables run from the Offshore Substation (OSS), 30 km East of Block Island (RI), to the Transition Joint Bays (TJB’s) at the Landfall at Quonset, North Kingstown in the State of Rhode Island, USA. There shall be 2 off 63 km circuits of 3-phase (AC) 275 kV submarine cable with two (2) integrated fibre optical elements from the TJBs to OSS1 and an interlink from OSS1 to OSS2 of about 13 km. Furthermore, Nexans has signed a preferred supplier agreement (PSA) with Empire Offshore Wind LLC to electrify the future of New York State by connecting the Empire Wind offshore projects to the onshore grid. The New York State is on the way towards reaching 70 percent of its electricity needs from renewable sources by 2030. Empire Wind is being developed by Equinor and BP through their 50/50 strategic partnership in the U.S. Empire Wind is planned for an area of 80,000 acres, in federal waters, an average of 33 km south of Long Island, east of the Rockaways. Two cable systems will connect the offshore substation for Empire Wind 1 to landfall and substation in Brooklyn, N.Y. In contrast, Empire Wind 2 will link to Long Island by three parallel cables.
